The Alliance-assembled Advisory Group on Health Systems Research (HSR) Synthesis has published a Commentary in Systematic Reviews. The Commentary describes the rationale for the establishment of the Advisory Group, its six areas work, and its role in advancing the field of HSR synthesis, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.

Although there is growing recognition of the importance of systematic reviews to both inform policy decisions and produce guidance for health systems, a number of important methodological challenges remain and there is a need to better understand the processes supporting the transparent use of review findings in complex health system decisions. In addition, there is a multiplicity of initiatives in the field and better coordination is needed.

The Advisory Group on Health Systems Research Synthesis has been created with the aim of bringing together different collaborations, groups and institutions interested in HSR synthesis and its use in decision-making processes.
