The Consortium for Health Policy and Systems Analysis in Africa (CHEPSAA) today released the much-anticipated final versions of its two open access, masters-level courses. The courses are entitled Introduction to Complex Health Systems and Introduction to Health Policy and Systems Research.
These courses are key CHEPSAA outputs and central to CHEPSAA's strategy of helping to build the field of health policy and systems research and analysis in Africa and internationally. These courses support improved and wider learning about health systems and how they work, improved skills in doing health policy and systems research, and strengthened teaching practices around the subject. The courses also provide a platform for others to build on because they can be further developed or adapted for different contexts.
Introduction to Complex Health Systems and Introduction to Health Policy and Systems Research consist of course outlines, guidelines for facilitators, PowerPoint slides, case studies and handouts - everything that is required to run these courses.
Both these courses are now available for download from the CHEPSAA website. They can be used in conjunction with Health Policy and Policy Analysis, a pre-existing course also available from the CHEPSAA website. Researchers and educators who are interested in understanding more about the curriculum development and teaching principles used in the creation of these courses (and of general relevance to the creation of other courses) might find it useful to read Principles and practice of good curriculum design.
The publication of these course materials coincides with CHEPSAA's African networking meeting, which will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa from 27-29 January 2015. This meeting will showcase CHEPSAA's activities and outputs, but also discuss potential future areas of work to continue building the field of health policy and systems research and analysis.
