Over the past 25 years, the field of health policy and systems research (HPSR) has emerged as a cornerstone of strong health systems, enabling healthy populations, ensuring health security and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Over those years, the field of HPSR has developed into a multidisciplinary field. The Alliance for HPSR was established to serve as a global convener and to push forward the field – including developing methods and approaches to facilitate stronger health systems around the world. Now, at 25 years old, the Alliance is looking ahead to a next phase of aligning with country priorities and a heightened focus on impact on policy and practice. This session – held as part of the International Conference on Primary Health Care in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – will convene leaders, researchers, and decision-makers to reflect on achievements and articulate future priorities for HPSR in the African region.
