Biography

Lorena is a public health and health systems researcher from Mexico. She supports countries and institutions in generating and using knowledge to address national and subnational health challenges.

As a trained medical doctor, Lorena specialized in internal medicine and infectious diseases at the National Institute of Health Sciences and Nutrition (INCMNSZ) in Mexico City. She holds a Master's of Science in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). Prior to joining the Alliance, Lorena worked as a researcher at the INCMNSZ’s HIV Unit and the Caribbean, Central and South America network for HIV epidemiology (CCASAnet), contributing to the continuum of care and data linkages for improved patient follow-up.

At the Alliance, Lorena has supported and coordinated programmes of work on applied health research across multiple countries. She serves as the focal point for the Alliance's work on digital solutions to strengthen health systems in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), coordinating ten country-based research teams. Additionally, she collaborates closely with the WHO Health Emergencies Programme (WHE) to support a peer learning network of national public health agencies and country-specific research to strengthen national public health agencies.
