The Alliance Secretariat is hosted and administered by the World Health Organization in Geneva and carries out the day-to-day implementation of the Alliance work plan, as determined by the Board.

Dr Samuel BOLAND

Scientist

Biography

Dr Samuel Boland leads the Alliance's research portfolio on areas affected by fragility, conflict and violence (FCV).
 
By background, Samuel is both a researcher and public health professional, specializing in public health emergency preparedness and response. He has previously worked on: surveillance system strengthening; viral haemorrhagic fever response; interagency coordination, civil–military collaboration and incident management; and global health diplomacy, governance and financing. He has worked for and across the academia, policy, international nongovernmental organization, and United Nation sectors in numerous crisis contexts, and previously served as the WHO’s mpox Incident Manager for the African region.
 
Samuel received his PhD in Public Health and Policy from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and BA in Public Policy and Human Rights from the University of Chicago.

He is a Marshall Scholar, Truman Scholar, Chatham House Leadership Academy Associate, and a recipient of Her Majesty’s Government’s Ebola Medal for Service in West Africa.
