Amir has been a professor of global health policy with a long-standing focus on health equity, good governance and digital health. He works across research and practice to strengthen how health systems are governed and how they deliver fairer health outcomes.

A physician by training, he holds a PhD in health policy from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He has published extensively, with more than 300 peer-reviewed articles and 25 books and has supervised over 100 PhD and MSc theses.

Over more than two decades, he has combined academic leadership with policy engagement and capacity strengthening, including at Tehran University of Medical Sciences and through global health governance roles. He has been serving on the Executive Committee of the World Health Summit and the International Council of the Virchow Foundation for Global Health. His contributions have been recognized through multiple national and university awards for education, research and professionalism.
